Baby Steps?
God Says to Tell You He is Proud of You
Baby steps, my child
To you it may be nothing
But you make daddy proud
I’ve loved Maverick City Music for as long as I can remember, and one of my favourite songs from them is ‘Real Thing’. It paints a picture of how I am, and how God sees me.
In moments when we feel as though we are still struggling in our walk with God, it can look difficult getting back on our feet after a slip. One moment, we’re thinking God will hold a grudge, the next, we want to avoid Him completely so He doesn’t get mad at the sight of us.
But it’s never that way.
God is not a man, who would store up offence. God is not a man who would act petty because you committed a wrong.
I love how Paul puts it in Philippians 3.
“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,”
Philippians 3:12-13 NLT
Here, he talks about himself not reaching perfection yet, but about how he presses on to possess perfection. And that despite everything terrible he had done in the past, he won’t be held back by them, rather, he will focus on what lies ahead.
One thing I have noticed about us christians, is how hard some of us find it to forgive our pasts. And this is where it all starts, because if we can’t forgive ourselves, how then do we accept God’s forgiveness? How do we enter it? How do we recognize His mercy? How do we claim every good and perfect gift that He has for us?
As much as our heart and spirit desires to please God, we still live in the flesh, we move around in our body, and that is another battle on its own. But God understands when we make mistakes – not intentionally, and we repent sincerely. God cares about us, He doesn’t want us to stay in that place of guilt for a long time.
You started bible study for a week and missed a day… Or missed you broke your prayer streak after struggling to be consistent for days. So what? Get back on track. What really matters is that you stay consistent.
Baby steps, yea? I just want you to know that God is super proud of you, so don’t for a moment let the devil guilt trip you into quitting. You’re doing great. All that matters is that you’re doing all of this out of the sincerity to seek, know and love God.
Hey friend! your heavenly Father is proud of your progress. Be it step 1 or step 27 out of 100. He is smiling, and He will make strength available for you to continue, just trust Him.
“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
Philippians 2:13 NLT
Look up, the host of angels and the cloud of witnesses are cheering for you 🥂. Well done. You’re doing really great. Keep running. Keep going. Keep pressing. The prize is yours to win.
